What does it cost to live at Rosewood?

The rent you pay is determined by your taxable income and is done at the time of your assessment.  If you are unsure of your rate, please contact the Accounting Office.  Rents are due on the first of the month and payable by either pre-authorized debit or post dated cheques. The rents are reviewed and determined by the Ministry of Health every three months. Rent receipts for income tax purposes may be picked up in February.

May I have tray service?

Tray service is provided when a resident becomes ill and is unable to come to the dining room or at the nurse’s discretion.

May I have a guest for a meal?

Guests may either bring in a meal or cook a meal in the resident kitchen.
Occasionally, a meal may be ordered from the menu for a guest. This is intended for an out of town visitor or a special occasion. We are unable to regularly provide meals for guests.

The meal will be served in either the resident kitchen or the main lounge. Please order dinner before 10:00 am and supper before 4:00 pm.  The cost is $4.00 for lunch and $6.00 for dinner.  This cost will be charged to your trust/comfort account.

How do I address my likes and dislikes?

The Manager of Support Service meets with all new residents to discuss individual likes and dislikes.

As part of the Resident council residents can volunteer to participate on the food committee. This committee meets monthly with the Support Service Manager to discuss the menu and dining service, sample new items, and plan special event menus. You may voice your concerns or compliments through this committee.

Furnishings - What can I bring?

You may bring your own easy chair, t.v. and stand, radio, clock, pictures for the wall, a few knick-knacks, one other small piece of furniture, and a non-skid, washable rug. When bringing items in please take into consideration the size of the room. Storage is limited, therefore, we are unable to store any furniture.

Please place soiled clothing in mesh laundry bags, hanging inside your bathroom door. If family members wish to do resident's laundry please post a sign on the closet door.

For the Special Care Unit, laundry is done as needed.

Yes. Our resident computer room is staffed with volunteers during specific hours to help residents with computer usage including email.

What happens if I take a vacation or go to the hospital?

The long term care program permits you to be away for thirty (30) vacation days in a calendar year. We need to know how long you plan to be away in order to prepare for your medications.
You are required to pay the basic rent each day while you are away. If a resident wishes to take more than 30 days leave he/she will be charged the full per diem rate for each additional day.

Acute admissions to the hospital is not counted in this leave, although you are still required to pay the basic rent for each day. A hospital stay which exceeds 30 days could result in the loss of your room. When going out always sign out and sign in upon return in the black binder at reception. Always sign out when leaving the building and sign in upon return. The sign out book for first floor is located on a table by the secretary.

I'd like to give a gift to the staff. Is this appropriate?

Gift giving is tricky in any situation, but especially at a nursing home. Lots of families want to show their appreciation by giving money or other gifts to caregivers.

Rosewood has a strict no-gift policy. We want to make sure all the residents are treated equally and the concern is the perception that a resident who is the source of gifts will be treated better than a resident who doesn't give or can't afford to give a gift.

There is a staff fund to which people can contribute if they feel so inclined. Also a letter of appreciation forwarded to the staff member and the administration staff is always appreciated.
