Role of the Richmond Intermediate Care Society

The board is the accountable body responsible for activities within the facility bringing individuals with a variety of background expertise together to fulfil this mandate.  It provides the benefit of consensus decisions.

As the board is composed of community representatives, it is in touch with community needs to be addressed in facility programming.  At the same time, the board or its Directors can do much to promote Long Term Care as a distinctive alternative in the health system.

The Board provides an objective system of checks and balances to the operation of the facility and helps the facility maintain its community base.

Society Board of Directors Responsibilities
  • Attend society board meetings 
  • Establish and maintain procedures for conducting the business of the Board in a meaningful and productive way.
  • Develop and continuously update a long range plan and ensure that decisions aremade in accordance with that plan.
  • Monitor and evaluate plans and programs to ensure that they meet goals and policies and the objectives of the long range plan.
  • Establish and update goals and policies.
  • Demonstrate financial accountability for public funds by reviewing and approving budgets and financial statements.
  • Ensure long range financial stability.
  • Support a process for evaluation of resident care and all other phases of performance in relation to currently accepted standards of practice.
  • Select the Administrator, define his/her duties and responsibilities, and evaluate his/her performance.
  • Ensure the community served is well informed about goals, performance and achievements of the board, the facility and Long term Care as an industry.
  • To surround the residents with every reasonable protection by seeing that the building is maintained in such a manner as to be safe and adequately equipped for the care and comfort of the residents.
